Will takeaway lunch boxes containing hot food be poisonous?

Apr 18, 2024

Plastic takeout lunch boxes containing hot food may not necessarily cause poisoning.

Whether a lunch box can hold high-temperature food depends on its material.

Plastics can be divided into 7 types according to recycling requirements, namely PET, HDPE, PVC, LDPE, PP, PS and PC.

Among them, disposable plastic lunch boxes for daily use should be made of PP, that is, polypropylene. PP has strong heat resistance, which can reach about 130 degrees Celsius; and the plastic made of PP has good flexibility, so there is no need to add too much plasticizer during the production process. PP is also the only plastic that can be directly used in microwave ovens to heat food.

Using PP takeout lunch boxes that meet national standards in daily life will not cause poisoning.
